Pistacia Atlantica Seed Oil – A Traditional Cold-Pressed Oil from Jordan

Pistacia Atlantica Oil

What is Pistacia Atlantica?

Pistacia atlantica (wild pistachio) is a tree native to the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of Central Asia. It is known locally by several names, including:

  • مستكة (Mastika)

  • الضرو (Al‑Darw)

  • الحبة الخضراء (Al‑Habba al‑Khadra – “the green seed”)

For centuries, rural communities in Jordan and surrounding countries have valued the tree for its resin, edible fruits, and oil-rich seeds. The fruits are small, drupe‑like, and contain seeds that can be cold‑pressed to produce a golden oil.

At Green Fields Oils, we source Pistacia atlantica seeds directly from family farmers in Jerash and other regions of Jordan. The oil is extracted using mechanical cold pressing – no heat, no solvents – to preserve its natural composition.

Fatty Acid Profile & Composition

Recent studies have analysed the chemical composition of cold‑pressed Pistacia atlantica seed oil. The seeds contain a high oil content (32–67%), and the major fatty acids are:

Fatty AcidPercentage
Oleic acid (omega‑9)39–49%
Linoleic acid (omega‑6)23.6–31%
Palmitic acid (saturated)21.3–26.6%

The oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids (approximately three times higher than saturated fats), as well as natural antioxidants, tocopherols (vitamin E), and phytosterols.

Traditional Uses

Pistacia atlantica oil has been used for generations in Jordan and the wider region for:

  • Culinary purposes – as an edible cooking or salad oil, valued for its distinct flavour.

  • Skin and hair care – traditionally applied to moisturise and protect the skin.

  • General wellness – used in folk practices as part of daily health routines.

Note: These are traditional uses only. We do not make any medical claims.

Why Choose Cold‑Pressed Pistacia Atlantica Oil?

Unlike refined oils that are treated with high heat and chemical solvents, cold‑pressed oil:

  • Retains its natural fatty acid profile.

  • Preserves antioxidants and tocopherols (vitamin E).

  • Maintains the oil’s characteristic colour, aroma, and flavour.

Our oil is 100% pure, unrefined, and free from additives – exactly as nature intended.
