When it comes to producing Thyme Essential Oil, not every bottle tells a story of purity..

The path to finding genuinely pure oils is obscured by industry practices that prioritize profit over purity. Here’s what to watch out for:

  • Synthetically Filled: Many essential oils on the market are filled with synthetic chemicals like phthalates (used to prolong scent) and benzene derivatives (cheap fragrance enhancers). These additives can cause allergic reactions, hormonal imbalances, and long-term health risks.

  • Heat Damage to the Plant: High-temperature extraction methods compromise the oil's composition, breaking down its beneficial compounds. This heat can transform therapeutic terpenes into less effective or potentially harmful by-products.

  • Residual Chemicals Which Harm the Planet: The use of solvents like hexane in the extraction process can leave behind residues that not only pose health risks but also contribute to pollution and harm to wildlife and ecosystems.

Whats different with us, as Green Fields Oils Factory?

Here at Green Fields Oils Factory, we are completely different from anywhere else. From our extration methods, to even our genuine ethical practices!

  • 1000 Year Old Traditional Method: Our oils are extracted using traditional steam distillation, a method perfected over centuries that ensures the purest, most potent oil without chemical residues.

  • Sustainability Through Zero-Waste Distillation: We've adopted a zero-waste cycle that really shows our dedication to sustainability. The water used in our cooling systems during distillation doesn't go to waste; instead, it's repurposed for cleaning. Furthermore, the plant material left after oil extraction is transformed into compost, returning valuable nutrients back to the earth and supporting the growth of future crops. This holistic approach not only minimizes our environmental impact but also reinforces the natural cycle of growth and renewal.

Thyme, -The Thyme- Herb That Time Embraced

Why did thyme never worry about aging? Because it has been seasoned by time itself! That is a good joke, anyways, thyme is a food and medicinal herb with a history as rich and layered as its flavors. From ancient civilizations to modern kitchens, thyme has seasoned dishes and healed communities.

A Sprig of History

Thyme's journey begins in ancient civilizations. To start, the Egyptians used it in embalming practices, while the Greeks burned it as incense in sacred temples, believing it was a source of courage. Thyme's reputation for bravery continued with Roman soldiers, who bathed in thyme-infused waters before heading into battle.

Medieval Symbolism & Uses

In the Middle Ages, thyme symbolized chivalry and bravery. Ladies would embroider thyme leaves on the scarves of knights as a token of honor. This era also saw thyme being used for its antiseptic properties, strewn across floors to ward off illnesses and hung in homes to preserve meat.

Culinary Tradition Through the Ages

Thyme has flavored meals for centuries. Its subtle, earthy essence makes it a staple in Mediterranean cuisine, French cooking, and beyond. Thyme's ability to blend with other herbs and spices has solidified its place in the iconic bouquet garni and herbes de Provence(There are herb and spice combinations), as well as in countless traditional dishes worldwide.

Lemon-Thyme Roasted Chicken with Thyme Essential Oil

  • 4 chicken breasts (bone-in, skin-on for best flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus a little extra for finishing
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Slices of lemon and fresh thyme sprigs, for garnish
  • 2-3 drops of food-grade thyme essential oil

  1. Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C), setting the stage for perfectly roasted chicken.

  2. Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

  3. Marinate: In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of olive oil, lemon juice, and honey. Brush this mixture over both sides of the chicken breasts. Let them marinate for 15 minutes at room temperature to infuse the flavors. If you have time, you can also cover and refrigerate them for up to an hour for deeper flavor.

  4. Roast the Chicken: Arrange the chicken breasts skin-side up in a roasting pan or on a baking sheet. Place in the oven and roast for about 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is golden on the outside and cooked through (the internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).

  5. Add Thyme Essential Oil: Just before the chicken is fully cooked (about 5 minutes before the end of the cooking time), remove the pan from the oven. In a small bowl, mix a few drops of olive oil with 2-3 drops of thyme essential oil. Brush this mixture gently over the chicken breasts.

  6. Final Roast: Return the chicken to the oven for the final 5 minutes, allowing the essential oil to infuse under the gentle heat.

  7. Rest and Garnish: Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring the meat is succulent and flavorful. Garnish with lemon slices and fresh thyme sprigs before serving.

Serving Suggestion:

Serve your Lemon-Thyme Roasted Chicken with a side of roasted vegetables or a fresh green salad for a complete, nutritious meal. The subtle yet distinct flavor of thyme essential oil will add a delightful aromatic touch to your dish, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Thyme in Folklore and Magic

Folklore often mentions thyme in the context of sleep and dreams. It was believed that placing thyme under one's pillow could ward off nightmares and ensure a passage to a pleasant dream world. Thyme was also thought to attract fairies and was planted in gardens to invite their presence, weaving a magical thread through the herb's practical uses.

Modern Rediscoveries

Today, thyme continues to be used not just for its food applications but for its therapeutic properties. Modern research has begun to uncover the scientific basis for many of thyme's traditional uses, particularly its antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. Thyme essential oil, extracted through steam distillation, is needed in aromatherapy and natural medicine for its ability to purify, heal, and soothe.

Thyme's journey through history is a testimony to its enduring value to humanity. As a culinary herb, it adds complexity and depth to dishes. As a medicinal plant, it offers natural remedies. And as a historical symbol, it connects us to the past. Thyme, seasoned by centuries, continues to sprinkle its magic across various aspects of our lives, proving that good things indeed come with thyme. :)
