Aquaponic Lemongrass Hydrosol
Lemongrass hydrosol (Cymbopogon citratus), steam-distilled in our own facility in Amman from lemongrass grown in a closed-loop aquaponic system in Jordan.
What a hydrosol actually is
When plant material is steam-distilled, two things come out: a small quantity of essential oil, and a much larger quantity of aromatic water. That water is the hydrosol — it carries the water-soluble compounds the oil doesn’t, and a trace of the oil itself in suspension.
It is not essential oil diluted in water, which is a different product made a different way. And it is not waste. The hydrosol is a second product of the same distillation, and in some plants it is the more useful one.
Because it is so much gentler than the oil, it can be used directly on skin — no dilution, no carrier.
Grown in water
The lemongrass comes from AmanGrow’s aquaponic system here in Jordan, where fish waste feeds the plants and the plants filter the water back to the fish. The loop is closed, so almost nothing is consumed.
In one of the most water-scarce countries in the world, growing a thirsty crop like lemongrass in a recirculating system rather than a field is the difference between sensible and not. We press and distil what we can grow here, and this is the first herb from that partnership.
What it’s like
Clear, with a bright citrus scent — recognisably lemongrass, but lighter and rounder than the essential oil, without its sharpness.
How to use it
As a facial toner — Spray onto clean skin, or apply with cotton. Use morning and evening.
As a refreshing mist — Keep it in the fridge in summer and spray on the face, neck and arms.
In the hair — Mist through damp hair for scent and a light refresh.
In your own preparations — Use as the water phase in creams, lotions and masks, in place of plain water. This is how most formulators use hydrosols.
In the kitchen — Lemongrass hydrosol is food grade. Add to lemonade, iced tea, sorbets, syrups and desserts where you’d want a citrus-herbal note.

Steam-distilled in small batches at our facility in Amman. Only steam touches the plant — no solvents, no chemicals. The hydrosol is collected, filtered and bottled with nothing added: no alcohol, no preservatives, no fragrance.

Stability
Unlike many hydrosols, ours keeps well. The pH sits around 4 — acidic enough to inhibit microbial growth naturally, which is why it needs no preservatives and why we don’t add any.
Store in a cool place out of direct sunlight. Refrigeration isn’t necessary, though it makes a pleasant summer mist. Keep the bottle closed and avoid touching the nozzle to skin or surfaces, since contamination is introduced from outside rather than arising on its own.
